Dr. Jonathan Artz, M.D.

Dr. Jonathan Artz, M.D.- who prefers to be called “Jon: grew up in Charleston, West Virginia.

He graduated from the Emory University School of Medicine and completed Adult Neurology training at UNC- Chapel Hill before doing advanced training in Neurophysiology at the University of Virginia (UVA) and UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center).

Jon met his partner when she was at Duke Medical School and they moved to the San Francisco Bay Area just over 20 years to join the Permanente Medical Group.

He was a staff Neurologist for just under 20 years at Kaiser Permanente in Marin County and started a Multi-Disciplinary Cognitive Health Program at his Medical Center that continued from 2016 until he left to move to Reno NV in 2020 and joined the  Renown Medical Group. 

He is presently a Joint Faculty member at the University of Nevada- Reno School of Medicine and Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology.  He Co-Leads and will likely Direct the 2nd Year Medical School Section on the Brain and Human Behavior in 2024 and is the Neurology Clerkship Director for 3rd and 4th year students at  UNR MED for the last 2 years.

He recently developed with his fellow Neuropsychologist a Neurocognitive and Brain Health Program at Renown  Health focused on patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment.

He is part of a Core Team of Clinicians, Public Health Experts/Professors, and Educational and Caregiver  Advocates to create a State Wide Memory Network to better serve the patients of Nevada who have memory and/or dementia issues.

Most recently he completed a 9 courses (On-Line) at Stanford University Graduate School of Business Executive Education Certificate in Corporate Innovation and Value Creation over a period of 1.5 years.

Outside of his formal work, Jon has been a multi-decade advocate for health and wellness topics and “runs the run.”

He has been running and training year around for 22 years (rain, snow, and everything in between)  and completed multiple Boston Marathons and numerous trail Ultra Marathons up to 52 miles. He still runs 50 miles per week. He walks his 10-year-old rescue dog, Sophie, when not running, eating, sleeping, or working.
