Description

BRAIN HEALTH AND RISK REDUCTION
According to the latest evidence, up to 40% of dementia cases globally could be prevented or delayed by addressing 12 risk factors in our day-to-day lives.

These risk factors that affect our brain health are wide-ranging and span our entire lives. They include education, smoking, hearing loss, physical inactivity, infrequent social contact, air pollution and high blood pressure. Some of these risk factors we can influence throughout our own lives, whilst some of them (such as air pollution) require action from governments to improve.

Fundamentally, good brain health is about looking after our brains as much as possible so that they continue to work properly throughout our lives.

Brain health is a more empowering concept than dementia risk reduction. The number of people who rightly believe they can improve their brain health is far greater than the number of people who believe they can reduce their risk of dementia.
